Las Vegas and the surrounding areas are suffering the effects of the long drought. The drought is expected to deplete the water levels in Lake Mead to levels not seen since the completion of the Hoover Dam. The lake is under 1,082 feet, which was the record for the lowest level in 2010, and expected to drop even further.<\/p>\n
You can do your part to help save water in the drought by following these simple tips.<\/p>\n

Avoid over-watering. The desert soil is not able to absorb large amounts of water, so practice the cycle and soak method of watering. This means setting sprinklers to water your grass 3 times a day, for 4 minutes at a time, with one hour in between each watering cycle.<\/li>\n
Fix any over spray problems. Make sure to turn your sprinklers on after mowing your lawn to ensure that none of the sprinkler heads were moved to spray in the wrong direction, wasting water.<\/li>\n
Look for leaks. Look for areas of your yard that are more green or wetter than the other parts, which usually indicates a leak. Make sure to fix any leaks as soon as they are found.<\/li>\n
Upgrade your appliances. Replace all of your old appliances, such as dishwashers and clothes washers, with new, water saving models. Many areas also offer rebates for buying water saving appliances.<\/li>\n
Turn off the faucet. Simply turning off the faucet while you brush your teeth or shave can save up to 10 gallons of water a day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
