What to Do If You Have a Car Accident in Nevada

All it takes is a slippery road or a moment’s inattention to cause a car wreck. A car accident can happen very quickly, and it may be one of the scariest moments of your life. Every driver should know what to do if there is an accident. However, the protocol may differ depending upon the state in which you are driving. In Nevada, this is what drivers should do if there is an accident.

Move Out of Traffic and Call the Police

First, if the vehicles are able to be moved and no one is seriously injured, move the vehicles out of the way of traffic. Next, call law enforcement. If no one is injured, you may just want to call the police without using the 911 number. If law enforcement shows up to work the accident, he or she will fill in the proper paper work. However, if a policeman is not available, you must take it upon yourself to get the correct information.

Paperwork Necessities

Make sure that you get the other driver’s full, legal name, phone number, and address. Additionally, you should get their driver’s license number and license plate number. Be sure to record their car information, like the make, model, and color of the vehicle. Also in Nevada, paperwork requires the Social Security numbers of both parties. Write down the approximate location of the wreck, the weather conditions, and the exact date and time of the accident. Be sure that you supply the other driver with the same information for yourself.

File Papers

In Nevada, you must file a Report of Traffic Accident within 10 days of the wreck. This form is available on the Department of Motor Vehicle website. It will include all of the above information and will not be accepted without it. You will also need to include a copy of your insurance card and medical reports if someone was injured.

Insurance Claims

Be sure to notify your insurance company of your accident as soon as you can. They will walk you through the steps of getting your vehicle repaired and making any claims against the other driver.

The benefits of digital security cameras

Many home owners and business owners are adding digital security cameras to their properties now that the technology has become relatively affordable and easy to use.

Today’s digital surveillance cameras operate largely through software and apps. They can alert home and business owners via smartphone when something appears amiss at their respective locations. Those who use the devices can monitor their property through their tablets and similar devices, allowing them to determine if there is truly an emergency occurring or not.

Digital cameras are credited with helping authorities recover stolen property in relation to several recent Las Vegas area burglaries. In each case, police were able to review recorded footage and find clues to the identify of the thieves in question, leading to arrests and property recovering.

If you are thinking of buying such a system, do some research so you understand your options. Make sure you choose a system that not only fits your budget, but also your privacy and security needs and goals.

Sustain the Life of Your Company With Business Income Insurance

Only one business out of five will recover following a significant loss, such as a natural disaster, fire or flood.  The inability to sustain the operation causes businesses to lose income that would cover payroll and operating expenses.   Business income insurance coverage can make survival possible.  Business owners are wise to follow these pointers.

  • Assess risks – Business locations have identifiable risk factors, such as floods, tornadoes or hurricanes.  In addition, supplier locations have similar risks.  Each situation must be evaluated to determine the ways in which the business must adapt to recover from various situations.
  • Devise continuity plan – Business survival depends on the ability to continue the operation in a temporary location or with another supply chain.  During this time, the business income insurance can supplement the cash flow to provide funds for the operation and payroll.
  • Conduct annual review – During the budget process, the continuity plan must be reviewed and updated to address growth and other changes that happened during the year.  Adjustments to the plan must include updates to the business income insurance policy limits.

Should your business carry more than general liability insurance?

Most business owners know they should carry liability insurance. However, not all understand the difference between carrying mere general liability insurance and more comprehensive coverage.

In many cases, general liability insurance does not provide enough coverage. For example, it will not protect business owners from the repercussions of defective merchandise production, product recalls, injuries caused by faulty merchandise or property damage occurring as a result of faulty products.

If you run a business with an international reach, bear in mind that general liability coverage does not extend across the United States border.

Meanwhile, if you run a business with professional staff, such as lawyers or accountants, it is important to purchase professional liability insurance to protect staff from tort claims alleging negligence or misconduct.

Depending on the type of business you run, there are many liability coverage options from which to choose. Some will be appropriate for your enterprise, while others will be unnecessary.

Home Insurance is Not a Home Warranty

Having a good homeowners insurance policy is an essential part of owning a home. However, some people may get their homeowners insurance confused with their home warranty. These two documents are both important, but they are also very different. While they may seen similar on the surface, when you really delve into what each one covers, you will find that they are nothing alike.

Home Warranty

Home warranties are usually purchased when someone buys a home. This policy is usually paid for at closing, and it protects the homeowner from failures of the major appliances and home systems. Usually the home warranty lasts for a year or two and keeps new homeowners from being responsible for expensive problems with appliances, plumbing, and other household systems that occur not too long after they move in the home.

Homeowners Insurance

Homeowners insurance policies cover damage to the home due to fire, theft, or storms. If a tree falls on the home, a storm destroys the roof, or someone steals things from your house, the homeowners insurance will pay for repairing or replacing things. However, most homeowners policies do not cover flood damage unless you have specifically paid for flood insurance. Homeowners insurance will not pay for replacing or repairing your major appliances or systems of the home if they fail due to routine problems, like wear and tear. However, if they are damaged by a storm or fire, homeowners insurance will most likely replace them. Homeowners insurance can also protect you from a lawsuit if someone is injured at your home.

Spring Is Here: Insure All of Your Summer Toys

The owner of a motorcycle, dirt bike or ATV should never assume that existing auto insurance policies would cover these toys.  Summer activities offer fun and excitement for all participants.  Sufficient insurance is required to prevent loss when accidents happen.  Start today to protect your assets from loss.

  • Property insurance – Damage to your motorized vehicles, RVs, boats and golf carts would be covered under this component.  Repairs, or replacement, of your property is important since few people can afford to pay for these expenses out of pocket.
  • Liability insurance – Property belonging to other people would be covered under this component.  In addition, injuries incurred when other people are involved in an accident with you would be covered.  Liability limits should be set high enough to cover lawsuit awards if another person sues you following an accident.
  • Injury coverage – The liability component will pay for injuries sustained by third parties.  Medical coverage is important if you and your family are not covered under another major medical insurance policy.  Health expenses can add up quickly if multiple people are injured in an accident.

Health and Safety Risks Associated with Mold in Homes and Businesses

Mold can result in a variety of health problems, ranging from itchy eyes to severe allergic reactions. Most home and business owners are not aware that mold is lurking in walls and ceilings or in damp basements. Since mold thrives on moisture, it can be found nearly anywhere, including on walls, ceilings, floors, fabrics, carpets, and even in ductwork. Mold poses many dangers in the home and business.

The dangers of fungi can escalate quickly. The growth of mold can begin with 48 hours of a surface’s exposure to moisture. If left unchecked, the mold will begin to grow and spread. Short-term exposure to fungi can compromise a person’s immune system, resulting in headaches, fatigue, burning throat, and flu-like symptoms. Respiratory problems are common when exposed to mold, and mold can increase the intensity and frequency of asthma attacks. Individuals with certain health conditions, such as severe allergies and asthma, are more susceptible to the dangerous effects of mold.
