Halloween Safety Tips For Your Four-Legged Friends

Your dog can enjoy Halloween in Las Vegas, NV with these safety tips.

Halloween doesn’t only have to be fun for those with two legs, your four-legged friends can also get in on all the fun! No matter if your dog is dressing up as a furry pumpkin or simply heading out on their evening walk while you go trick or treating, keeping your pet safe should be your first priority. Keep these Halloween safety tips for pets in mind while celebrating the holiday.

  • If you are dressing up your pet, make sure to keep an eye on them at all times while they are wearing their costume. Make sure the costume fits properly and does not bother their breathing, hearing, or eyesight.
  • Keep all Halloween treats away from your pooch. Chocolate and most other treats can be very harmful, or even deadly for dogs. If you want to give your dog a special treat, head to your local pet shop and see what Halloween goodies they are offering.
  • Children who are dressed up in costumes can easily frighten dogs, especially when they are loud and excited. Make sure to use extra caution when your dog is around children to ensure nothing goes wrong.
  • If you are taking your dog trick or treating with you, make sure that they are on a leash. Everything that is going on can cause even typically well-behaved dogs to act aggressively.
  • Bring your dog inside on Halloween night so that they can feel safe. Pranksters are known to use Halloween as a night to throw eggs or perform other acts of vandalism, and bringing your dog inside can help to make sure that they are not scared by any of these tricks.

Avoid Food Borne Illnesses This Thanksgiving With These Tips

Use these food safety tips when cooking your Thanksgiving dinner.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, preparing early can help to ensure that you are ready for the holiday. From the shopping for all of the ingredients you need for your secret family turkey recipe to designing the perfect centerpiece, the sooner you start planning, the smoother the holiday will go. Following proper food-handling procedures can help to make sure that everyone can fully enjoy your delicious Thanksgiving dinner. Keep these Thanksgiving food safety tips to protect your loved ones.

Clean

Starting with a clean kitchen and clean hands will set the stage for safe food handling. Clean and sanitize your sink and any surfaces you will be working on and utensils that you will be using. Wash your hands and utensils with soap and warm water after handling raw meat to prevent any cross contamination.

Separate

Refrigerate or freeze raw poultry in a leak-proof bag as soon as you bring it home. Don’t thaw poultry at room temperature. Instead, thaw it in cold water or the refrigerator. Don’t rinse off poultry before cooking to prevent bacteria from spreading when water splashes.

Cook

Cook all poultry until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the thigh or breast reaches 180 degrees. Cook stuffing separately in the oven or on your stovetop to help it and the poultry cook thoroughly.

Chill

Leftovers should be refrigerated within two hours of cooking. While cooked poultry can be eaten cold, if you are reheating it, make sure the meat reaches a temperature of at least 165 degrees.

Having the right insurance policies in place can help to make sure that you are covered in case of any peril this holiday season. Contact All Nevada Insurance in Las Vegas for all of your insurance coverage needs to keep you properly protected.

Home Décor with Pumpkins

Create instant and easy seasonal décor in your home space with pumpkins!

Can you believe it? We are already half way through October! With the leaves falling, the summer weather cooling off, and Halloween costumes in abundance in each store, the fall season is certainly upon us! Now is the time to add simple touches to your house to create the autumnal seasonal theme.

Go beyond the jack-o-lantern this year with these creative pumpkin incorporations.

Adorn – Cut holes in a soft-skinned pumpkin and place single flowers in the holes. Repeat this all over the pumpkin to make a delightful flower/pumpkin combination!

Stack – Slice the stalk from the pumpkin, and place plates and trays on top. Choose different sized pumpkins for a variety of heights.

Paint – Involve the kids and friends to paint designs on pumpkins (Think similar to Easter eggs!) for some added shimmer. For the most interesting results, use gold or metallic paint!

Dotty – Using the painting technique, paint circles on the pumpkin to make a polka dot design!

Stripes – Another paint job can involve smooth, vertical black lines. Alternate black and gold stripes for a spooky, shimmery effect.

Etch – Announce your address in style by etching your house number into a pumpkin using a pumpkin carving set or a craft knife.

These clever, unique twists of decorating pumpkins goes beyond the standard carved pumpkin, and adds sophistication and design to your home.

Ask These Before Lowering Your Car Insurance Coverage

Consider these questions before dropping full coverage auto insurance.

There can come a time when you feel that you can lower your car insurance coverage. You should know exactly what coverage you’ll be dropping, and how this impacts your policy and protection. In order to determine if you should lower your insurance, consider these five questions.

What am I giving up?
Typically, full coverage is comprehensive, collision, and liability coverage on one policy. It tends to not include extras like towing and labor, roadside assistance, rental car coverage, and other add-ons. Therefore, what some people consider ‘full’ is actually just the bare minimum. When full coverage is removed, your policy will empty to leave liability coverage. This means that you have no coverage for your vehicle at all.

Do I owe on the car?
Determine if you’re even allowed to drop comprehensive and collision coverage. Newer vehicles that are financed are often required to have full coverage from the bank and lienholder until the car is paid for.

What’s the value of my car?
Establishing the value of your car will help decide if it is worth less than the policy. A car depreciates with age, and more often than not, repairs cost more than the value of the vehicle. Use online sources to find an estimate of your car’s worth.

How much is collision coverage costing me?
Collision coverage provides a big portion of your monthly bill, as property damage is one of the highest costs in an accident. If you’re a safe driver, collision coverage may be the one to drop first as you’re still covered for freak accidents.

How much is my collision deductible?
You can keep collision coverage and peace of mind by raising your deductible. This will lower overall insurance rates while keeping your policy. However, when doing this, be sure if you raise your deductible to $1,000, that you can actually pay $1,000 out of pocket, should you need to cash in on your policy!
