The Perils of Staged Car Accidents

If you’re not aware of staged car accidents, you may not be able to adequately protect yourself from them. A staged car accident is a car accident that another person initiates intentionally for a variety of reasons. The driver could be seeking medical care for an existing problem, such as a spinal injury. More often, the driver is looking for a quick settlement or even a payoff.

Staged car accidents often occur in two stages: one car will get in front of you and will slow or stop suddenly, and this will drive you into another car to your side. The car at your side will claim to not have seen anything at all that would have caused you to swerve.

Other times, a staged car accident can be as simple as another car tapping their brakes to get you to hit them from the back. It’s important to note, however, that all of these accidents rely on you being too close to other vehicles. If you ever feel boxed in by other cars, or as though other drivers are getting too close, you should take immediate action to get away.

Staying Safe Around The Pool

Adding a pool to your backyard is a great way to stay in shape and cool down during the summer. However, everyone in the family needs to learn basic pool safety skills before they get around the open water. This can help prevent many injuries and accidents.

Start by teaching everyone to swim with an adult, and ask adults or teens to swim with a buddy as well. Install alarms on pool gates and use only tall, secure gates to ensure the youngest members and pets can’t accidentally wander into the area.

Keep floatation devices near the pool at all times. If someone does fall in, you need to immediately be able to throw them a ring. Consider safety covers that keep animals and children from falling in when the structure’s not in use. All of these efforts will help you avoid the need to make claims against your homeowners insurance policy. If your current coverage doesn’t include injuries related to your pool, contact All Nevada Insurance for more information. Nevada residents should take the time to insure every major home addition or improvement shortly after construction is completed.

How to File a Home Insurance Claim

Filing a home insurance claim isn’t difficult, but there are a few things that you do need to be very careful about when doing so. An insurance claim usually begins with an inspection of the damage and careful documentation. You will want to do this as soon as possible and you will want to document everything in pictures as well as text. Once you have captured as much information as you can you can call your insurance company for further information. Your insurance company will be able to direct you to the appropriate forms you need to submit.

Many companies today have mobile phone applications that allow users of the app to automatically file a homeowners insurance claim, complete with photos and explanations, right through their phone. This can be a great way to submit a claim quickly. Once the claim has been received in whatever format you chose, the insurance company will review the claim and will contact you with any further information they need. Once the claim has processed, the claim will be finalized and funds will be disbursed.

A Few Ways Renters Insurance Can Save You

Contrary to what many people believe, rental insurance isn’t very expensive. The amount you pay for coverage depends on the value of your possessions, the amount of coverage you want, what your deductible is, and the type of insurance you get.

If you choose not to purchase renters insurance, you may be making a mistake that may cause you huge problems. In very hot climates where intense dry winds are the norm, the entire area is susceptible to massive wild fires. Without adequate rental insurance, you would lose everything.

Renters have the option of choosing between cash value coverage or replacement cost coverage. The main difference is that cash value considers what you paid for your property. They then deduct a pre-determined amount for depreciation. Be careful about rushing to sign up for this type of policy. Ultimately, you may not be able to afford to replace things with this type of coverage.

When you choose to purchase replacement coverage, your insurance company will pay you whatever it costs to replace the possessions you lost, provided the loss is covered.

Named perils coverage will only pay you for situations that are specified in your policy. All perils coverage provides much more comprehensive protection and pretty much includes everything, except things that are excluded under the policy terms.

If you want to save money on rental insurance, choose the highest deductible you feel comfortable paying. Ask about multiple policy discounts. If you need auto insurance, you may reduce your rental insurance costs by opting to bundle your policies with the same company.

What Every Landlord Needs to Know About Insurance

Being a property owner that rents either residential or commercial space is operating a business. This means that as a landlord you must protect yourself and your business from risks attributable to property loss, income loss and liability.

While requiring your tenant to either have renters insurance or general business liability insurance offers a modicum of insulation from these risks, it is not enough.

Coverage landlords need include:

  • Property insurance
  • Income replacement insurance
  • Liability insurance

Property is subject to risk from many types of peril. Fire, flood, earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes are some of the more common risks. Most business insurance advisors recommend that a landlord purchase a policy for each peril to insure protection is sufficient.

In the event your rental property suffers significant damage from fire or another peril you will not be able to rent it. However, property taxes and mortgage expenses may still be upcoming and if you counted on income from the property for living expenses you need to replace. This is the purpose of income replacement insurance.

Injuries to tenants, visitors and guests that occur on your property can be costly to defend. If a claim is made against you for something like failure to maintain the property and that inaction resulted in an injury liability insurance will pay for your defense if the case goes to court and the amount of the settlement or verdict up to your policy limit.

There’s An App for That: Home Inventory Made Easy

A home inventory helps you recover lost property if you are a victim of a fire, break in or other tragedy. Homeowners insurance and renters insurance policies require the client to keep an inventory of their personal possessions so they can be replaced if they are destroyed or damaged. In the past, a hand written list or a video/photographic list were the common ways to maintain an inventory.

New apps are available for smartphones that allow consumers to immediately record new purchases and place them on their home inventory list. Apps are easy to use and make retrieving an item’s serial number and description as easy as typing in a few letters. Filing a claim for lost or stolen property can be taken care of almost immediately.

Las Vegas, Nevada residents have a new and innovative way to help them maintain an accurate and up to date home inventory. The agents at All Nevada Insurance can help their clients discover new apps that will help them create a home inventory using their smartphone. With a complete list of their belongings in the palm of their hand, they can make a claim or a police report in a matter of minutes.
